If you are in need of a toy for
yourself, are tired of depreciating assets, but want something you can drive…
here it is. If this was real, in this condition, it would be a $250k plus
trailer queen… you can drive this anywhere, and they can’t tell it’s not real
unless you open the hood.
This is a super restomod
rendition of the rarest and last of the Shelby convertibles. It would be very
difficult to professionally build this car to this level of quality for anywhere
near this price. Remember, spending less on a rust bucket rotisserie project or
mechanical nightmare will always cost more time, labor, money, and
headaches than getting a good one in the first place. Not to mention the
beautiful driving days you would miss. Only someone who has built one of these
knows the money hemorrhage of the “just one more $325 trim part” and “while
we’re in there let’s do the ___ too”

Summary:
We set up this ad in sections
so you can get more detail as you go. It is probably more info than you want,
but better to err on that side. I bought this beauty to drive for fun, but we
are over-toyed and it needs to find a new home. If you know about Mustangs,
your first concern will be rust… I can find NO structural rust. When we buy new
parts, we get the best ones available and fix it right, since it is cheaper in
the long run. Whether you buy this one or another one, always ask where the
parts came from. The odometer reads about 2,200 since the rebuild.
Engine/Drivetrain:
- 5.0 HO EFI Airmass Engine
runs well and starts with ease. It is still stock with 19# injectors. The
valve covers do not leak and it does not burn oil at all. I bought a Paxton
SN92 Supercharger for it, but decided not to install it after all and sold
it.
- The Shelby 5-scoop NACA
hood provides great ventilation for the engine.
- AOD Transmission (9/08 by
All-American Transmission of Houston) is the standard of Ford automatic
transmissions. It shifts firm and true, with no drips.
- The newly built 9” posi
rear end has a 3.89 was professionally built in 7/09 by local builder Tony
Black, and is perfect for the AOD transmission.
- The new 3 row radiator is
great, and the temp gauge is in the middle in hot Houston traffic. This was
required for future re-installation the A/C system.
- New battery
- Engine/Radiator area was
cosmetically updated in 1/2012
Interior:
- The top-of-the-line Shelby
rollbar, trim, and accessories were ordered from Branda Performance in PA;
and professionally installed by Shelby expert Surefire Mustangs in Houston.
It really improves the profile and handling of the car.
- The entire interior and
both door panels are new.
- The white Shelby
comfortweave seats, frame rebuilds, new foam and new black carpet compliment
the Grabber Blue color very well. They are perfect.
- The entire wood cluster
was disassembled, lenses replaced, all finishes restored. The gauges all
work and the speedo driven gear is correct. The circuit board in
new
- The repro Shelby console
has a lighted period-correct tach and analog clock in the two holes.
One of the period-correct toggle switches runs the gauge lights, and the
other one is not yet assigned
- All of the dash bulbs,
flashers, switches, etc. were replaced too.
- The new Steering wheel
with Shelby cap was installed in August, 2009, as well as a new full
steering/turn/horn column harness in 1/2012 A 1969 Shelby wheel will not fit on a
1970 steering column.
- This appears to have been
a factory A/C car, but the equipment was long gone before we bought it. The
new retro-kits reportedly work better anyway, but the hard-to-find correct
controls and vents are already in the dash. Heater box assy was re-done in
6/09 by Surefire.
- The
new Sony AM/FM/CD/BT/Ipod works well with
the new style dual mode stereo speaker into the stock dash mono speaker area
and correct Shelby speakers in the doors.
- The remote sport mirror
works well.
- The seat belts were
completely restored
- Since the EFI computer is
mounted behind the passenger side dash area, the regular wood dash with
clock would not work. We successfully located and restored the impossibly
rare wood clock-delete dash panel for that side.
- New full dash pad and
trim.
- Heater and Vent controls
and fans work great (ready for a/c install)
- The console lid is the
correct triple-hump design with a 3 button Homelink unit hidden inside.
- The ashtray hole has a
period-correct leather trimmed cup holder and looks good.
Exterior:
- The body is perfect and
all new Branda panels were professionally fitted by Surefire. The frame was
adjusted for gap perfection; the (9/08) paint is in show condition. It has
1970 black stingers down the hood and correct reflector stripes down the
sides. The hood, doors, top latches, and trunk open and close correctly
with no sags. The body panels were reviewed with minor adjustments in
1/2012
- The windshield glass is
new (9/08), and the new convertible top was replaced in 10/08. The top
frame was completely rebuilt and restored with all new rubber.
- The convertible hockey
trim was professionally chromed and is in show condition
- New bumpers, grille, trim,
1970 chin spoiler.
- The BFG tires are almost
new and the new Magnum 500 wheels with Shelby caps look great.
- If you are in Texas, the
1970 Texas license tags will go with the car. It is registered and titled it
with those tags.
Steering:
We installed a new Flaming
River steering box, replaced all of the PS hoses with new ones, had the valves
and pump professionally rebuilt, and replaced all of the fluid (08/08 by ADCO
Steering). It works with one finger. New steering wheel was discussed earlier.
Brakes:
We have installed OEM correct
power disk brakes (4/10).
Suspension/Undercarriage:
The bottom has not been
undercoated, but looks very good. The entire front end is tight.
The dual exhaust system is in
good shape and the mufflers sound great… The correct
Shelby exhaust collector and port are also new.
Electronics:
- The new radio is a modern
digital Sony CD/Bluetooth unit.
- The electric trunk release
is in the cabin for one-touch access to your golf clubs.
- The top of the line alarm
system was installed by Executive Motoring in 2/08.
- Dual mode headlights with
daytime running lights.
- New fully electronic LED
sequential Shelby tail & brake light system
- Other security
features will be disclosed privately to the buyer.
- Since the standard fusebox
for the 1970 Mustang is grossly undersized, there are 2 supplementary power
blade-style fuse blocks:
- in the trunk is 12v
hot with 8 fuse ports (security, power ant, power trunk, radio hot,
homelink, clock, + 2 available) it has a 4ga feed with an emergency
disconnect fuse;
- under the dash is 12v
ign/acc with 8 fuse ports (alarm, radio, console lights & socket,
daytime driving lights, + 4 available) it has a 4ga feed with an
emergency disconnect fuse activated by an accessory trigger relay unit.
